About Payrise NZ
An independent, free calculator that shows New Zealand wage and salary earners exactly how much of a pay rise they'll actually keep — after every deduction.
Why we built Payrise NZ
When you're offered a pay rise, the number on the letter isn't the number that hits your bank account. PAYE income tax, the ACC earner levy, your KiwiSaver contribution, and any student loan repayment all take a slice before you see a cent. Most people only find out the real difference when their next payslip arrives — by which point it's too late to negotiate or plan.
Payrise NZ exists to close that gap. Enter your salary and the raise you've been offered, and you'll see the true take-home increase per year, per month, per fortnight and per week — plus a clear breakdown of where every dollar goes. It's the tool we wish we'd had.
Transparency first
We show every dollar of your pay rise — where it goes, what's deducted, and what lands in your account. No black boxes, no estimates dressed up as facts.
Built for real NZ pay
We use the current IRD PAYE brackets, the 1.67% ACC earner levy, the 12% student loan repayment rate, and genuine KiwiSaver contribution options — the same figures your payroll uses.
Free, forever
The calculator is free to use, with no sign-up, no paywall, and no data harvesting. We fund the site through advertising so it stays open to everyone.
Privacy by default
Your numbers never leave your browser. Scenarios are saved locally on your device, and the share link only encodes the values you choose to share.
How it came together
We noticed the gap
Most Kiwis see a pay-rise offer and assume the headline number is what they'll get. The reality — after PAYE, KiwiSaver, ACC and a student loan — is often 20–40% lower.
We built the calculator
Payrise NZ breaks down exactly how much of a raise you keep, per dollar and per week, so you can negotiate and budget with real numbers.
We keep it current
Tax rates and thresholds are reviewed regularly. We update the calculator to reflect the current New Zealand tax settings each time they change.
About the numbers
The calculator uses the current New Zealand PAYE tax brackets, the 1.67% ACC earner levy (capped at $152,790), the 12% student loan repayment rate on earnings above $24,128, and your chosen KiwiSaver contribution rate. Results are estimates for guidance only and are not financial or tax advice. Tax rates and thresholds are reviewed regularly — we update the calculator to reflect current New Zealand tax settings each time they change.
